How do I know if I need braces?

There are lots of problems with the teeth that can be helped with orthodontic treatment:

  • Crowding – when there is not enough room for the teeth to fit into the dental arch
  • Spacing – when there is too much room between the teeth within the dental arch
  • Tilted teeth – when the teeth are angled either forwards or backwards in the mouth
  • Protruding teeth – when the top teeth protrude too far forward, ahead of the bottom
  • Overbite – when the top teeth cover the bottom teeth too much
  • Underbite – when the front bottom teeth are ahead of the top teeth
  • Crossbite – when the top teeth are tucked behind the bottom teeth
  • Open bite – when the top teeth do not touch the bottom teeth
  • Jaw growth discrepancies – when the top or bottom jaw is either over or under developed

Preventive Care

Because we promote long-term relationships with all of our patients, we encourage you to come in at least once every six months in order to be proactive against serious dental problems. In the office, our dentists provide expert advice and recommendations for a customized dental hygiene plan that will ensure that your smile continues to look beautiful and bright for years to come. We do oral cancer screening during periodic exams.

Restorative Dentistry Fillings

When you have a cavity, we strongly recommend getting a filling as soon as possible because the cavity will grow and cause more serious problems. Composite (a tooth colored material) or amalgam (silver colored material) are the most common materials used to restore decayed teeth. Amalgam is a metal alloy made of liquid mercury (50%) and powder containing silver, tin, copper, zinc and other metals. We emphasize using composite resin fillings for both front and back teeth because they are more natural looking, blend well with tooth enamel, increase the strength of the tooth being repaired and do not result in the medical problems associated with amalgam fillings. Additionally, composite resin fillings require minimal removal of the tooth structure, unlike amalgam fillings.

If for medical or aesthetic reasons you have amalgam fillings and would like them removed and replaced with composite resin fillings, we would be happy to do this for you.

Crowns

Crowns, also known as caps, cover teeth that have been weakened by decay that has occurred around fillings or to cover teeth that are severely damaged, decayed, chipped, discolored, or misaligned. We offer highly aesthetic full porcelain crowns such as IPS Empress, Wol-Ceram, and Zirconia. When we prescribe PFM (porcelain fused to metal) crowns, we use gold which goes beneath the porcelain. Many dentists use non-precious metal to fabricate the crowns, which contain Nickel. Because Nickel can cause an allergic reaction in the mouth, we use only FDA approved, high precious alloys.

Bridges

A bridge, also known as a fixed partial denture, is used to replace missing teeth. Artificial teeth are set between crowns, placed over adjoining natural teeth. The bridge s permanently cemented, ensuring that the patient will never have to remove it. Smiles Unlimited uses porcelain or porcelain fused to a metal (usually gold) to construct bridges for our patients.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements that are an effective and durable way to counteract tooth loss. Implants are a permanent solution in situations where severe tooth decay, root canal failure, periodontitis, trauma, and excessive wear and tear have caused the loss of teeth in patients. Implants are, in most cases, extremely successful at restoring the natural beauty of your smile.

Removable Partial Dentures

We offer removable partial dentures as a less expensive alternative to bridges or implants, which can be used to replace one or more teeth that are missing for any number of reasons. RPDs can be removed by the patient and are composed of a metal portion, artificial teeth, and a resin base. We offer metal free partials made of acrylic and Valplaft (flexible partial).

Full Dentures

For patients who have lost all of their natural teeth, complete dentures offer a way to restore your smile, support your facial muscles, and give you a younger appearance. Modern dentures are comfortable, durable, and functional, allowing you to speak and eat with confidence.

Gum Treatment (Periodontal)

Periodontal (gum) diseases are infections of the tissue that support your teeth. The two major stages of gum disease are gingivitis (less severe) and periodontitis (more severe). We place strong emphasis on the health of your gums. If gum disease is diagnosed in its early stages, it can be successfully treated. We do scaling and root planning in our office to treat the disease in its early stages. In advanced stages of periodontal disease, you may be referred to the gum specialist for surgical treatment.

Root Canals Therapy

If you have an injured or diseased tooth, it may not be necessary to remove it. With today’s advanced in modern dentistry, we can offer you endodontic treatment or RCT (Root Canal Therapy). Usually, RCT requires one or two visits. We strongly recommend restoring the tooth with a crown after the procedure is completed. Because preserving the natural tooth is very important (after all, we only get 2 sets over the course of our entire life!), root canals may be necessary to save your tooth and repair the damage that has been caused. Smiles Unlimited gives you an environment that is calming, relaxed, and comfortable to keep you at ease and make the process as smooth as possible.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Aside from the health, cleanliness, and strength of your teeth, we understand that most patients are concerned with the overall appearance and attractiveness of their smiles. Cosmetic Dentistry offers solutions to people who are concerned about discolored or stained teeth, misaligned teeth (minor gaps, crookedness, tilting, or crowding), or damaged teeth (chips, fractures, cracks, etc.)

Veneers

Veneers are thin, custom made shells that are designed to adhere to and cover the surface of teeth. They can mask problems with severe discoloration, damage, misalignment, or poorly shaped teeth. Veneers can be made from composite resins, acrylic material, or porcelain. Veneers only require two visits, one to prepare your teeth and another to apply, and are a much more durable and longer term solution than bonding.

Oral Surgery

If your tooth can not be saved, we can remove it in our office. In the event that the tooth is severely impacted or if you would prefer to undergo the procedure using general anesthesia, we can refer you to a reputable oral surgeon.

Sterilization & Safety

At Millennium Dental, safety and sterility are primary concerns. We use the most current and clean technologies to ensure that our services and procedures are safe and hygienic. Tools are cleaned and sterilized using high pressure autoclaves and surfaces are sanitized using hospital grade disinfectants regularly to ensure safety for all of our patients.
